History

Scisense, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of micro-sensing devices for medical research applications, including the measurement of blood pressure, volume, and ECG. The Scisense Team represents decades of engineering design and manufacturing expertise and in-depth knowledge of biomedical research and instrumentation.

In 2002 Scisense created its first device, a catheter-tipped 1.2 French solid-state pressure sensor for mice, which became the smallest such semi-conductor device available and remains today the ideal size to blend the dual requirements of durability and minimal impact on central hemodynamics. We continued our development efforts, introducing a pressure-volume measurement system using classical conductance technology, first for mice and then for larger hearts. Innovations included ease of use, form factor, and additional accuracy through carefully selected gain and offsets.

Our miniature sensors are now part of our expanded product line including a full range of solutions for all sizes of hearts and other organs. Not only do we offer catheters in a full range of sizes, we also offer data recording and analysis packages for monitoring pressure and ECG as well as a comprehensive PV loop module for studying cardiac function and energetics.

Even more exciting was the introduction of our “ADVantage” technology for all rodent-based PV Loop systems in January of 2009. This technology represents a breakthrough in the measurement of blood volume in the left ventricle of the beating heart, eliminating traditional sources of inaccuracy such as saline bolus, cuvette calibration, and catheter positioning.

ADVantageTM technology was subsequently introduced for large animal models in June 2010, providing the same benefits as the rodent system but also introducing the concept of greater accuracy through single segment catheter technology. Further, our trademark “VSL technology” ensures greater utility from each catheter as now a single size of catheter fitting many different hearts, reducing the variety of catheters that a lab used to have to stock in the past.

All Scisense products are designed and manufactured in-house to the highest quality standards, and we stand behind these products with unmatched warranty protection. By applying expert micro-fabrication techniques with stringent quality control, testing and validation, Scisense provides minimally invasive sensors that permit rigorous assessment of cardiac function based on accurate, reliable and reproducible results.
